Are assessments available for learning and developmental needs?

Yes, TherapyWorks offers assessments in areas such as ADHD, executive functioning, and occupational therapy to support academic and developmental needs.

Who can access services at TherapyWorks?

TherapyWorks provides services for all age groups, from children to adults, across most mental health, learning, and developmental concerns. Specialized programs support children, adolescents, families, and neurodivergent individuals. We are happy to be an inclusive agency that strives to provide culturally sensitive practice in a way that feels supportive for our clients.

6

Can I book a virtual appointment?

Yes, virtual therapy sessions are available for clients throughout British Columbia.

7

You are a neurodivergent affirming organization but I notice that you offer Behavioural Consultation and Behavioural Intervention services for Autistic clients.  Can you provide more information?

Our services are not consistent with traditional and modern ABA or behavioural approaches. Some of our clients are able to access funding that requires a particular service label. The service remains consistent with the general intent of supportive interventions and goal based therapies, but the delivery is quite different.  We work with clients to identify goals that are meaningful to them, help them work with their strengths, identify changes in their supports and environments to improve their functioning or ability to achieve their own goals, and assist clients in developing an affirming identity as someone who is neurodivergent. We adhere to the practice framework outlined in the Neurodiversity Therapist Collective.  We advocate with school, workplaces and systems to address how they can better support their neurodivergent community in those settings.

What group programs are available?

Group programs vary throughout the year.  Currently, Group therapy includes social engagement groups, such as social engagement through Dungeons & Dragons, Teen group hangouts, summer programs.  Our therapeutic programs include anxiety therapy groups, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), relationship based programs for new or contemplating parents, and other programs based on needs and community interests.

In the past we offered programs to support increasing confidence in social engagement with peers through our Therapeutic Theatrics Programs & Improvable, and executive functioning skills development through escape room building programs.  Keep an eye out for these to return in the future.  Reach out to info@therapyworksbc.com if you want to be added to a waitlist.

9

Do you accept insurance and can you direct bill?

Insurance coverage varies, as does the option for direct billing for mental health services.   At this time, we are not aware of any programs that cover our Nurse Practitioner Services, with the exception of Health Savings Plans.

Clients should contact TherapyWorks or their insurance provider to verify coverage details for other services. If direct billing is available, we can usually work with your insurance provider to offer this.  We are able to direct bill for clients eligible for funding through Metis Nation BC, Autism Funding Unit, most distance learning programs, FNHA, Medavie Blue Cross for Veterans and First Responders.  For insurance providers that do not support direct billing for our services, we can provide you with a receipt for your payment that includes all the details you require for reimbursement.  See a list of insurance providers that cover our counselling services here:

Do you offer clinical supervision or workshops for professionals?

Yes, we do! We are committed to helping our colleagues grow and learn.  We are happy to work with individuals, groups and corporations, especially around supporting individuals who are neurodivergent to be included in schools, communities and workplaces.  We also are strong advocates for reducing barriers to full community engagement.

12

Do I need a medical referral for any assessments?

We do not require a medical referral for any of our services.  However, if your funder has specific requirements to support your access to services, such as a medical assessment to confirm your eligiblity for funding, you may need to arrange that before being able to access financial supports to pay for services.  These requirements are not TherapyWorks requirements.
